Coaching Staff
Head Coach - David Heflin
David brings extensive playing and coaching experience to DePaul College Prep, where he will lead the program’s inaugural 2026–27 season. A Mundelein, IL native, he has held head coaching roles with the Vernon Hills Ice Dogs, Chicago Jets, and Chicago Cougars (USPHL Elite), and has also coached at the University of Illinois, Carmel, and Fenwick High Schools.
As a player, David competed at the junior level through Tier II Junior A and at the collegiate level with the University of Wisconsin–River Falls (NCAA Division III) and the University of Illinois (ACHA Division I), earning multiple All-Academic honors. His teams captured conference championships at UW–River Falls and a national runner-up finish at Illinois.
David is the founder of AdvancEdge Performance and most recently led the Chicago Jets Peewee Major team to a state championship in 2025. He is committed to building a high-standard, team-first culture at DePaul College Prep—developing disciplined, accountable student-athletes who succeed on and off the ice.
ASSISTANT COACH - SCOTT BAGBY
Scott brings a strong playing pedigree and four years of competitive coaching experience to the ice. A Downers Grove, IL native, he developed his game through the Chicago Hawks, Fury, and Team Illinois before going on to compete at the junior level across the WSHL, NOJHL, and MHL. He then played four years of ACHA Division I hockey at Ohio University, where he earned multiple All-Academic honors.
As an assistant coach with the Chicago Jets U15 program, Scott has spent four years helping build a winning culture from the ground up—including an unofficial state championship in his first season. A specialist in defensive structure and defensive skill development, he brings a detail-oriented, systems-based approach to the back end of the ice.
Scott is committed to developing disciplined, accountable players who compete hard, play the right way, and carry their habits on the ice into every area of their lives.
